Friends of Government Canyon 2018 Recharge Run (8K)

Gov. Canyon State Park.jpg

Come run/walk where the dinosaurs once roamed–join us for the 5th annual fundraiser Recharge Trail Run!

Due to possible impact of the natural area, the race is limited to the first 300 participants. In the event of rain/trail closures the race will be held on the roads of GCSNA - there will be no rain date.

Note: I'm registering for the 8K ($45), NOT the 15K ($55): 8K runs through the Frontcountry trails. An easy to moderate course that is great for beginners and walkers.

Again, please be sure to go to the link for Friends of Government Canyon and Register for the event if you'd like to join us. This event is limited in participants to preserve the area.

Since I'm a walker I reached out to Friends of Government Canyon about walkers and they suggest that while walkers are welcome we are encouraged to do the 8K (5.29 miles) in the Frontcountry. Being the course cutoff time is 11am, it is difficult for most walkers to finish the challenging backcountry 15K (9.2 miles) in the 3.5 hour cutoff—unless you are familiar with the Government Canyon backcountry trails or are an experienced hiker do they recommend walking the 15K. Chip timing clock, course support, and the opportunity to receive a finishers medal expire at 11am. This park is no joke. I've hiked it several times, but for the sake of WOA I feel like the Frontcountry trail is the best option, but if you're up for the challenge go for the 15k!!!! We will cheer you on as you leave the starting point!!!
