Family Camp Out Weekend

Kids in Tent-Slide 4.jpg

Family Camp Out weekend is here! My kids get jealous of all the adventures I've been having, so here's one we can bring them along.

We'll be staying at the convenient and close Tobyhanna State Park, a 5,440-acre park includes the 170-acre Tobyhanna Lake. Tobyhanna is derived from an American Indian word meaning “a stream whose banks are fringed with alder.”

With hiking, swimming, a boat rental, AND flush toilets and warm showers. What more could you possibly ask for? Great weekend getaway with the littles.

Because most campers reserve sites well in advance, I highly recommend you book a spot. You can cancel up to 7 days of the trip minus $10 fee. In order to stay as a group, I recommend you book sites along the western edge (ex. 93, 92, 91, 90, 89, 88, 87, 86, 85) which are still close to the water, but not too far from the bathrooms. I have already booked site 87.

Check-in time is 3pm Friday and check-out time is 3pm Sunday. Stay with us for one night or both! You can choose to spend time as a group or hang out with your family. When our family goes car camping, we save mornings for hikes, afternoon for naps, next is water fun (swimming/boating), dinner, and finally s'mores and stars.

If you have any questions post on FB or email me woalehighvalley@gmail.com

Pinchot Trail Beginner's Backpacking Trip

Image borrowed from https://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php/116321-Pinchot-Trail-North-Loop

Who's ready to breathe in the fresh air and test their roughin' it skills? I'll be taking you on an introductory backpacking trip along the 10-mile looped Pinchot Trail.

We'll depart late morning/lunchtime and carpool to the trailhead. It will be an easy, flat, 5-mile hike into the campsites, with access to a spring (you will need filtration equipment!). Set up our tents, and enjoy sharing experiences with each other over dinner, watch the sunset, star gaze at night, and pray for no bears! Once the sun peaks it's head the next morning we can pack up and hit the rest of the loop, 5 miles back to our vehicles.

You WILL need your own basic supplies like a tent/hammock, sleeping bag/pad, backpacking pack, water filtration, sturdy shoes, etc. Unsure if you're ready or if you have all the supplies? WOA has a handy dandy downloadable guide to get you started in our member's area. https://www.womenonadventures.com/members-only/adventure-info

We are NOT hiking the 23 mile loop. The trail is split into a North Loop and a South Loop. We're going North only. :D
