GoGirl Review: Introducing Squat-Free Adventures
by Laura Bayard
As a woman, there have surely been moments in your life when you’ve envied your male counterpart’s ability to pee while standing. Camping, hiking, boating—it would come in handy for virtually any outdoor activity. Even for events like concerts and festivals.
This is where GoGirl comes in. GoGirl is a female urination device (FUD), which solves that whole squatting problem and allows you to pee while standing wherever you are. It costs about $10 on Amazon and comes in a convenient little tube (about 4 inches by 1 inch), small enough to throw in your purse or backpack. In the tube you’ll find the FUD, a tissue, and a small storage bag with directions for use.
I’ll admit I was a little hesitant when Jenny (our fearless WoA leader) asked me to review this. And even more so when GoGirl's directions told me to maintain a “good seal.” It’s a funnel. How the hell are you supposed to get a good seal on…yourself?
Various online reviews said GoGirl worked great and praised its compactness, but said its flexibility didn’t work well in situations that require discretion. But it worked like a charm for me! I did two test runs in the comfort of my own bathroom and experienced no leakage, although I wasn’t trying to be discreet in the slightest. Cleanup was almost a breeze. Once you’re done, just rinse the GoGirl out with water, store it and some tissue in the small bag (Ziploc bags work as well), and roll it back into the tube. The rolling part took a few frustrating adjustments.
Despite that, GoGirl will definitely be going with me on future outdoor adventures. (I’m actually really excited to try it out in the field.) Knowing that something so compact will save me from countless pee squats makes me that much more excited about my next trip. I recommend it go with you too since you adventure loving women, as GoGirl’s slogan so finely puts it, don’t take life sitting down.
