We’ve all been there. Frustrated by the same clothes because you have “nothing to wear.” Articles of clothing strewn across your bed as you try to find something that matches. Before you know it, you’re late for work and not even your morning coffee can help the situation.
I have two words for you: Capsule wardrobe.
The idea behind a capsule wardrobe is you have a set number of articles of clothing (typically between 30 and 40) for each of the four seasons. These items can all mix and match with each other, which gives you a wide range of outfit options. Ideally, you only wear items from each season’s wardrobe so you don’t over wear or get sick of certain clothes. The capsule wardrobe is also designed to prevent impulse purchases. Once you have a completed wardrobe, you shouldn’t need to buy anything else for the season.
I’ve been wearing a capsule wardrobe for about two months now and I absolutely love it. Not only does it save me loads of money, but I hardly have problems finding something to match. The beauty of a capsule wardrobe is that you can completely customize it to your own taste. Where some women include shoes and accessories in their set number of items, I don’t. I prefer buying plainer tops and bottoms (primarily black, let’s be honest) that all match with each other and dressing it up with different shoes and accessories. But to each her own!
There are no definitive rules to a capsule wardrobe, which is what makes it so great. If you’d rather have two seasonal capsules instead of four—have at it. If you want 40 items per capsule instead of 30—knock yourself out. The sole purpose of a capsule wardrobe is to save you time and money and make you a more confidently dressed woman who looks as kick ass as she feels.
