This year we hope to bring the combination of hiking and yoga together for our Happy Hour Hike and Yoga series. We are starting this year off with a central location and a kickass yoga teacher.

We all know the feeling of tight hamstrings after a good hike. The ol’ hikers hobble. Well, not this time! After a nice somewhat leisurely stroll through the desert Alex will lead us through a restorative practice to work out any kinks. We can think of no better way to end a hike than with yoga.

We’ll meet at the Dreamy Draw trailhead where Jenny will lead a one hour hike around the preserve. This would be considered “moderate”. Not flat but we won’t do anything too crazy.

After our walk, we’ll grab our yoga mats and Alex will guide us through a restorative one hour yoga practice.

WHAT TO BRING

  • Water - Always. Don’t forget it!

  • Hiking poles - If you want them. The terrain in this preserve is rocky.

  • Yoga mat - you can leave in your car. We will grab them after the hike.

  • Headlamp - It’s getting darker earlier. We will be done with the hike before dark but it’s always a good idea to be prepared.

  • Layers - It is January and once that sun goes down it will get cold. You can even bring a comfy blanket for savasana!

My full name, Alexandra Szajowski, might be a mouthful; so you can just call me Alex! While completing an Internship in Phoenix, AZ at USAA's Fitness & Recreation back in 2014; hiking & trail running were a daily routine. In the flatness of the Midwest, which is Home, I spent most of my time longing for mountains, palm trees, & desert vibes out West. 4 years later, I am back & hitting the trails, along with working with Adults - Personal & Small-group Training (women, ONLY! :); instructing Group Fitness classes (Barre, Bootcamp, Cycling/Spinning, Yoga, etc.); & teaching children ages 2 & up Sports, Exercise, & Mindfulness/Yoga. Although scarce, ME-time is spent laying in the sun; trying out local cupcake/donut shops; working on art projects; & curling up with homemade food & a non-fiction book. Working on my relationship with Self, growing a She-tribe, & bonding with Like-minded Humans gives my life passion & purpose. Thankful to be a part of Women on Adventures & looking to make an impact one Adventure at a time!
