I was told to put a bio here. I don't like being told what to do...
Women on Adventures started in 2015 as a Meetup group. It was my idea to create a space where I personally would be forced to put down the cocktail, get out of the house, and find some adventure. I wanted to try new things and thought if it was on a public calendar, I would be forced to do it. It worked, not only did I show up, but you all showed up, by the thousands.
Who we are now
We officially became a business in 2016 and have been growing steadily ever since. Our goal is that you experience adventure in a safe and supportive environment. Our mission is to challenge you and your comfort zone. We can't promise this is going to be easy, but we can promise it will be fun.
What we do
You'll find more information on the Join page about what adventures we do, but let me tell you a little bit about our philosophy on adventure. Adventure is anything that makes you a little nervous to do. When you think about that thing, and you feel a little uncomfortable about it, then you should do that thing because that's your adventure! Remember our adventure meter is different. What scares me is probably not what scares you, unless you too are deathly afraid of sleeping with one leg hanging out beyond the safety of the mattress, SAME. So maybe our adventures are different, but we have the exact same fear response in the body, and we all have to work together to do that hard thing.
Why we adventure
Transformational is a word that is used a lot in our circle. Experiencing adventures out of our comfort zone has a way of doing that to us. Everything we thought we knew about ourselves changes when we aim an arrow at a target and hit the bullseye, literally.
Adventure forces your perspective to shift. You'll notice you begin to say yes more often to things you thought you would never do, like the time I agreed to do some public speaking! I'm still in shock at this one. You may find yourself more open to new ideas and ways of doing things. Maybe you find a little more patience and resilience in your life. Ultimately it's up to you.
One more thing about why, the community building that happens around adventure is magical. We have seen lifelong friendships form around our adventures and that is such a beautiful thing to witness.
Friends, I'm here because on July 11, 2015, when I started that meetup group, I decided to do something hard, and I know that you too can do this.
We can all do hard things.
